. My name, as you may already have guessed from the url, is Derek Watters. This is my first attempt at a website so please forgive me if all is not perfect. I live in Dundalk, Co Louth in the Republic of Ireland, a town of 30,000 inhabitants, located half way between the cities of Dublin and Belfast. My interests include aviation, astronomy, cars, computers, ornithology and meterology and I hope to expand this website, over time, to include all of these subjects. Initially, however, I am concentrating on Aviation, Weather and Astronomy matters.
As I have not used any fancy web design programs, I have made the task of designing this website much more difficult and indeed, time consuming. However, in an effort to learn HTML, aided by two excellent tutorial sites, http://www.developingwebs.net/html/lesson1.php and www.virtuallyignorant.com, I have created this site from basic HTML on Microsoft Notepad. If you have any ideas about setting up your own site, I would strongly advise that you take a look at these sites, before using any "fancy" webdesign program, as, according to the experts, without the basics, your web designing skills will be greatly reduced. In addition, after a test of FTP programs, I found FTP Commander from http://www.internet-soft.com/ to be the best.
Initially, I was using basic html to prepare the tumbnail and image pages, however with well over 200 photos this became impossible. I have used a brilliant little program called Arles Image Web Page Creator. A nice feature of this program is it's ability to create slideshows - you can see this at work on the various image pages - clicking on a tumbnail starts a photo slideshow, with photos changing every 4 seconds. This can be obtained on a limited trial basis from http://www.digitaldutch.com/arles
